Miriam King The Greater Innisfil Chamber of Commerce celebrated business achievement in Innisfil, with the presentation of its annual ICCON Awards at a black-tie-optional gala on Feb. 4, held upstairs at the Stroud Arena. "How many of you got your invitation and thought, the Stroud Com- munity Centre?" asked Chamber of Commerce president Heather Mac- Donald. But the auditorium was completely transformed for the event, with white satin covers on the chairs, silver and blue ornaments, and blue lights that created an intimate yet elegant setting, on the theme 'Hollywood Glamour'. Over 200 guests sat down to a gourmet dinner served up by Catering by Colin, danced to the music of Rear View Mirror, and watched the presentation of the ICCON business awards, honouring outstanding businesses in Innisfil. This year, the Chamber of Commerce received a record 96 nominations in eight categories. Winners were announced by emcee Jennifer Robinson, of Rogers TV. Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, sponsored by Sobeys, honouring "the entrepreneurial spirit and enterprising attitude of an individual between the ages of 15 and 30 who has demonstrated excellence" was Adam Baguley, founder of Kempenfelt Renovations Inc. The Green Business Award, sponsored by Innisfil Hydro went to Spring Tree Farm, not only for its trees and landscaping, but Tina MacMillan, of OLG Slots at Georgian Downs, centre, and Greater Innisfil Chamber of Commerce president Heather MacDonald present the Community Award to Christina Spring, of Spring Tree Farm. Chamber of Commerce honours best and brightest
for the introduction of the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle in every division of the company. The Fork & Plate Family Grill, in Alcona, won the Service Business Award, sponsored by Scotiabank. The owners were unable to attend to collect their award in person, but sent a letter of thanks. The Retail Business of the Year Award, sponsored by the Town of Innisfil, was Dickey Bee Honey. For the past 10 years, the familyrun business has been producing prize-winning honey and 17 honey-based products, as well as providing pollination services for numerous local fruit and vegetable growers. The BDC-sponsored Manufacturing/Industrial Award went to the Original Flag Store. Continued on Page 7
